Fun Activities for our Thailand Volunteers!

November, 2010
This Update is all about the fun activities that volunteers take part in during their volunteer Thailand experience!

Fun Volunteer Activities for our Thailand Volunteers

While volunteering in Chiang Mai, there are plenty of fun and interesting activities that one can do. Considering Chiang Mai is a tourist town, there’s a ton of souvenir shopping and sightseeing. For an interesting shopping experience, we take our volunteers on a tour of Worarot Market (or KadLuang). Worarot Market is Chiang Mai’s largest market and is the center of the city’s trade and transportation. Flowers, clothes, fruit, (and of course) rice are in great abundance at Worarot Market. Our volunteers always enjoy the colors, exotic sights and smells of the market tour, with the highlight being the fried bugs! The picture to the right is of an orientation group that had their group photo taken at the flower market area of Worarot Market.

Thailand Souvenir Shopping

Although there are plenty of gift shops and art galleries throughout the city of Chiang Mai, the best place for our volunteers to find great souvenirs is the Sunday Night Walking Street Market. Here volunteers are able to find handmade arts and crafts to take home to friends and family. The famous Chiang Mai night bazaar is also an interesting evening experience. Most people favor the Sunday Night Walking Street Market, however, the Chiang Mai night bazaar is more convenient, as it doesn’t normally draw huge crowds of people and is open every night of the week. Considering it is Thailand, you’ll certainly find mouthwatering Thai finger foods, and plenty of good people watching at both the Night Bazaar and the Sunday Night Walking Street Market.

Treks, Zip Lining, Bungee Jumping and anything else a Volunteer in Thailand Would Want To Do!

One of the most popular activities that our volunteers enjoy is zip lining. It seems as though every couple of weeks, a group of our volunteers book their day trip to Eagle Track. Flying high above the tree tops on zip lines is the perfect adventure holiday activity to compliment any Thailand volunteer project. Other adventure activities include Elephant Rides and Thai cooking courses. For volunteers interested in showing off their authentic Thai cooking abilities upon returning home, we recommend a Thai Cooking Course. There are plenty of courses to choose from, ranging from a half day course to a full weekend trip cooking course to small villages in rural Thailand. The most popular and fun cooking course our Thailand volunteers have found is conducted by Smart Cook. Treks are another very popular activity for our volunteers to experience during their project. It’s also a great way to see more of the beautiful Thai country side. For volunteers, really interested in exciting activities during their volunteer Thailand holiday, including bungee jumping, Zorb Ball and Paint Ball, there will always be the Chiang Mai X-Center.

A Thai Travel Agent for our Volunteers

It’s always fun for me to hear about the different fun activities our Thailand volunteers are able to experience during their volunteer project time. Chiang Mai is a great city to visit and volunteer in. We have a licensed Thai Travel Agent, named Paul, come and visit the Friends for Asia Volunteer House during each orientation to assist our Thailand volunteers with information and help with signing up for the different fun activities Chiang Mai has to offer.
